Rebecca Edwards “Politics, Social Movements, and the Periodization of U.S. History” discusses the false accusations historians make on the time period of the Progressive Era. Historians describe the Gilded Age took place from the end of the civil war to the start of the Great Depression (1929). If this were to be true, then the Progressive Era wouldn’t have existed which was in the time periods of 1890 to 1920. In the time periods, many concerns of politics and movements began to erupt. The concern of war began to rise after witnessing the civil war and all the way to the new deal. Many movements such as the ones for women suffrage and segregation became a large concern. Edwards believes that the Progressive Era is much more of a better vocabulary
