Whereas I was ready with a plausible story, I was not ready for the process of donning a sling. It dawned on me when I was donning the sling to officially start my 24 hours, that throughout my life I had never been physically disabled due to a broken bone. One of the first lessons was the change in people’s attitude towards the disabled person. With my very plausible background story of how I was injured, my family was even more caring towards me. Naturally, my parents wanted to take me to the emergency room but after some convincing, they both thought it would be best if I went to bed earlier instead of working on homework. My mother and brother also opted to wash my dishes for me. While my parents’ reaction felt normal, my sibling’s overly helpful actions towards me were unexpectedly surprising.
