Many American families believe that SeaWorld is the best family vacation spot with its many parks all over the country. A typical visit to SeaWorld includes petting dolphins, visiting the aquarium, and being splashed by a majestic Orca. While SeaWorld may seem family-friendly, it definitely is not animal friendly. The tourist attraction, also known as SeaWorld, tortures its animals by ripping them from their homes and families, placing them in pools that might as well be bathtubs. Although families enjoy taking a trip to SeaWorld, they would feel a lot differently if they knew about the constant pain and torture inflicted on SeaWorld’s animals.…
They remain with the mother for about four years. They are a long-lived species, with an long life span of up to 45 years. A bottlenose dolphin's maximum breath-holding capability is about 12 minutes. All marine mammals have special adaptations for diving. These adaptations enable a dolphin to conserve oxygen.…
Their body is designed for fast swimming and acrobatic performances. The Atlantic spotted dolphins diet consists of small fish, squid and octopus. When hunting for food, these dolphins make dives of 30 ft or less, however they can be seen reaching up to 200 ft or more. The Atlantic spotted dolphin can be found living in tropical climates all year round and prefer living around ant coastal waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Nobody is sure how long these mammals live but it is guessed to be about 30 to 40 years.…
The dolphin eats crabs, mackerel fish, and shrimp. The crabs eat phytoplankton and seagrass. The mackerel fish just eats phytoplankton. The crab eats algae, kelp and phytoplankton. This evidence supports the claim that I made because by taking out those dolphins the seas would be overpopulated by the shrimp, fish, and crabs.…
Blackfish belong in the wild and not in captivity. During the video one of the trainers said “Tilikum; one of the blackfish, has a curved fin”. It is due to captivity because it is a proven fact that less that 1% of blackfish get curved fins, and the ones that do usually are in captivity. Curved fins can also be caused by having no space in which to swim freely which is overall unacceptable and inhumane .This is a good example on why blackfish belong in the sea instead of a trapped closed in place. Holding animals captive is cruel.…
Bottlenose dolphins get their name from their stubby snouts, which are about 3 inches long. Their sharp teeth serve for grasping rather than for chewing bottlenose dolphins swallow their prey whole. Their eyes are on the sides of their heads, just beyond the corners of their mouths. but You'll have to look closely to see ears, which are small holes below the eyes. On the top of their heads, also bottlenose dolphins have blowholes, which they close off with a muscular flap when they go underwater and open when they surface.…
Without space to swim freely, the dorsal fin gets less of a workout which weakens the tissue and causes a bent on the fin. Collapsed dorsal fins happens in less than 1 percent of orcas in their natural habitat. Not only are the animals not cared for properly, they are also confined in such small living quarters. At SeaWorld, male orcas average to be about 22 feet long and females about 18 feet long. The tank size restricts the orca from swimming freely and is compared to a human in a bathtub.…
Bottlenose dolphins are around eight to nine feet long, and their skin is gray. Unlike most mammals the bottle nose dolphins don't have hair. They use their pectoral fins to steer while swimming, to stroke, and to touch each other. Currently the Bottlenose Dolphin is not endangered or threatened. Dolphins swim and live together in small groups called pods or schools.…
SeaWorld offers an opportunity to watch and interact with animals that live in the ocean such as orcas, beluga whales, dolphins, turtles, fish, sharks, and otters. Although, in the eyes of many, SeaWorld is corrupt when it comes down to whales killing their trainers, orcas having a short life expectancy, and marine life being held captive. Killer whales have been the topic of discussion when it comes to whether or not they are violent. There have been some headlines about trainers getting killed by killer whales at SeaWorld.…
Sea otters forage for food at the bottom of the sea and can dive up to around 300 feet. They primarily live in the water and can hold their breath for up to 5 minutes.…
Survival stories By:Ava and Mike Isn’t it a mystery how people can survive in harsh environments? In Island of the Blue Dolphins,Hatchet, and Guts survival is the main topic. These books are nothing but survival, death, and strength.…
In my speech, I will be describing the trials and triumphs of solitude, and the bittersweetness that come after. In both The Diary of Anne Frank and Island of the Blue Dolphins, there is a time of isolation with both times of optimism, and also pessimism. In both Island of the Blue Dolphins and The Diary of Anne Frank, the book starts off with an average girl of her time and place without anything to write a book about, but then their lives take a turn for the worst. In Island of the Blue Dolphins, Karana, the main character, loses her father in a unnecessary battle over otter pelts and what is a fair share.…
