The king's son, Ferdinand, is brought to Prospero, where he sees Miranda, and it is love at first sight.
The second party is Alonso, Sebastian, and Antonio. Alonso fears that Ferdinand is dead and grieves for the loss of his son. Antonio easily convinces Sebastian that Sebastian should murder his brother and seize the throne for himself.
The third party is the court jester and the butler, Trinculo and Stefano. Stefano has come ashore in a wine cask, and soon Caliban, Trinculo, and Stefano are drunk. They meet Caliban, and think of ways to make money by putting him on display as a monster from the uninhabited island. Caliban a plots to murder Prospero and has his two new acquaintances as accomplices. Little do they know Ariel is listening, and reports the scheme to Prospero before anything happens. Prospero punishes Caliban, Trinculo, and Stefano with a run through a briar patch and swim in a scummy pond. Ferdinand is kept busy but is forbidden to speak to Miranda. The two end up find declaring their love. What they didn’t know was that Prospero had this all planned. His intentions are to have them wed in order to leave the island with the king.
