Response To Harper Lee's 'To Kill A Mockingbird'

Indeed, I really like your reader response and just like you I also loved the character of Atticus, as he is a wonderful person. As you mentioned he always takes stand for any wrong matter, when everyone was against black man, he was the one who fought the case for Mr. Robinson who was charged with false rape case. However, the white jury gives the decision against him but overall, he always there if anyone needs him. Mr. Atticus runs his family alone and without his wife he brought his children marvelously. He gives them a right to stand or to speak whenever they feel. Because of his efforts, his children have power to explore the hidden truth as they did in exploring Radley Boo’s mistery. Like as you provided in your response, not only Mr.

Atticus was brave for defending a black man in a time where African Americans and White people weren't equal. Atticus’s whole town disapproved of him representing this man in court since he was a black. Atticus said “It's when you know you're already licked before you begin but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what” (Lee 112). This quote characterized Atticus as a brave man, and overall a good person. He knew that he would lose the case against him, but in his mind, he knew he had to support the African American because that's the right thing to do.…

"Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird," My father said these words to me and my brother, Jeremy, when we got our first guns. My name is Jean-Louise Finch some people call me Scout. Atticus was the kind of person who always said what he thought. We're all here today to remember Atticus, how he was kind and honest to everyone he talked too, his feelings about people being equal and against racism, and how he taught me and Jem to 'walk a mile in someone else's skin, before you judge them,' Atticus was the best role model that anyone could ask for and I don't think anyone would change it for anything. When I was in my 3rd year of school Jem destroyed Ms. Dubose's flowers, and Atticus…

While there are many instances of justice and injustice in To Kill a Mockingbird, the cases of injustice Scout witnesses and experiences are the most prominent. Examples of injustice are when Scout is told she is not allowed to be taught to read, when Uncle Jack berates Scout, and when Tom Robinson was accused of rape. The first time Scout experiences injustice is when she is informed by the teacher that she is not allowed to have her father teach her how to read anymore. Miss Caroline strictly believes that she is the teacher and that the students are to learn from her.…

He does not take advantage of people because of how rich or poor they are such as when he allowed Mr. Cunningham to stop giving him crops because he has paid him enough. Finally, because Atticus does not judge people based on their skin color such as when he allowed Calpurnia to stay with him because she is “part of the family” This shows integrity. Taking on the task of defending a colored man in such a racist town is very challenging but Atticus intended to do his best for his client. After the trial, everyone in the courtroom stands in respect as he…

Imagine a wagon with wooden wheels, helping a family move across a valley. The wheels have to endure all of the bumps, rocks, mud, and water, yet a family will not move anywhere unless the wheels are on the wagon. This is similar to the idea of empathy that Harper Lee is trying to emphasize through Atticus. In To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, she keeps proving through Atticus that even though being truly empathetic toward someone less fortunate than you may bring them down in society, standing up for one another could also make a whole society respect one another.…

This article covers the dispute over an unreleased sequel to “How to Kill A Mockingbird” an American classic written by Harper lee that was discovered by her attorney Tonya Carter fifty-eight years after the original was published. The debate originated when Ms. Carter decided that they would in fact publicize this manuscript and it became one of the most pre-ordered books of all time. At 88 years old Harper lee’s mental and physical health were in bad shape and family members questioned whether she actually intended for “Go Set a Watchman” to be released to the public and whether Ms. Carter was manipulating Harper Lee because of her poor health in order for her gain. If I were the publisher of this book I would not release “Go Set a Watchmen”…

Atticus perseveres through his problems and acts upon his role in society, to do what is right. He explains to Scout that “Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win…” (76) Atticus is a remarkable man because he defends Tom Robinson in the case even though he knows that in society at the time, when it’s a black man’s word against a white man’s, the white man always wins. He represents a light in a time of darkness because even when most people neglect to defend what is morally correct, he fights for the Negro citizens and tolerates the insults and shame he continually faces. When Scout talks about a book that Atticus read to her, she tells him about a misunderstood character who “was real nice” and didn’t do anything wrong even if people thought he did and Atticus tell her that “Most people are…when you finally see them.” (281) Atticus refers to Boo Radley because while he knew about Boo and respected him staying in the house all the time, most people assumed the worst and let their ignorance interfere with the truth.…
