After Betty being gone all summer she comes back expecting things to be the same as they were when she left yet she was let down. Betty realized she realized she wanted more than just a friendship with Archie. Archie and Betty went to Pop’s, a restaurant that was very popular in Riverdale, to catch up considering they had been away from each other all summer. They were discussing the work they did for their parents over the summer when the new girl from New York came in, Veronica Lodge. Betty was not aware that there was a new girl nor did she know she her and Archie were friends. Betty had feelings for Archie for quite sometime now but was holding back from telling him. She was relatively close to telling Archie that she liked him just as Veronica came in and rudely interrupted. They had grew up going to school with each other but did not become close until they both joined the school newspaper in high school (The Blue and Gold). Jughead’s dad was a south side serpent which consisted of a tremendous amount of bikers. The South side serpents had a bad name due to the violence they were involved in. Betty had always been warned about this unacceptable group because they are trouble. Betty’s mother was evil and judgemental therefore she did not approve of Jughead. This judgment from Betty’s mother did not stop her from falling for Jughead. Betty did not care that his dad was a serpent. What she cared about was Jughead and how he treated her and that was nothing less than perfect. I love that Betty did not consider the opinion of others, including her mother's,, when being with Jughead. She was engaging in a relationship with Jughead because she loved him and that is all that mattered. This is an example of romance mixed in the teen drama a mystery. Not only are we entertained with romance from Betty and Jughead but also from Archie Andrews and Veronica Lodge.
