Every day when the Logans walk to their colored school, Great Faith Elementary, they are passed by a school bus with all the white kids. On the bus, the driver goes as fast as they can, harassing the black kids. One of the main characters, Little Man, is notorious for being meticulous and hates it when his clothes get dirty. One day the Logans get fed up and decide to dig a pothole, for the bus to fall into. Later in the day, the bus fell into the pothole. I see this as the most effective and most satisfying act of resistance. “As we crossed the school lawn, Stacey beckoned Christifor-John, Little Man, and me aside. “Look,” he whispered, “meet me at the toolshed right at noon.” “Why we asked?’ He eyed us conspiratorily. “I'll show ya’ll how we're gonna stop that bus from splashing us.”(P.g. 49&50) I see this as an act of resistance, as the Logan kids are resisting the Jefferson Davis school bus from wreaking havoc on their daily lives, and dehumanizing them. Not only is this an act of resistance, but as a bonus, they have wreaked the bus, forcing the white kids attending Jefferson Davis school, to walk to school for two weeks, a taste of their own
