Dimmesdale was a Puritan, he had sinned and done wrong while he should be preaching words of God, assisting other people in living good and healthy lives. Chapter eleven reveals that Arthur is far from his standards and God’s as well. Not only does Dimmesdale feel the guilt and anguish but, is harming himself physically and mentally due to his guilt. In the forest later in the novel Dimmesdale finds it easier to associate with the Black Man as he is weakened to temptation for his sin. He is now able to sympathize with other sinners and wrong doers due to his sinning. While in the forest Dimmesdale realizes that he should ask for forgiveness because he is human. Dimmesdale exposes how someone can be torn apart by the sins and stigma of doing wrong in God’s eyes. The rose bush was kept alive outside the prison for many years through history, no matter if it survived out of wilderness or for there is a fair authority for believing, Hawthorne noted within one section. The rose bush shows the ability of nature to encounter and outlive mankind activity. A rose bush may not seem important in many aspects but, is symbolic of the main character Hester Prynne. The rose bush from a distance looks lively, romantic and pretty just as Hester Prynne seemed until she was convicted of adultery. Once she was convicted and people peered at her more closely they saw the Scarlet Letter “A” generating others to back away and keep a distance, just as people would once they saw the thorns on the rose bush. Mankind and nature are under God’s control and can be compared to each other. Hester Prynne had no where to go for amenity and affection when her husband, Roger Chillingworth, stayed back in Europe as she ventured over to the Unites States. Once Hesters secret was revealed and unleashed to the public, humiliation capped her life through the scarlet letter. The beauty of Hester Prynne was hidden behind the letter upon her bosom but, instantly as soon as the letter was removed her beauty was replenished as if nothing had ever happened over those seven years.
