Without the characters that are in the play, Romeo and Juliet the relationship between the two would have a completely different impact based on their surroundings. Each character has a huge role to fill, and with even the slightest change neither Juliet, nor Romeo would have committed suicide. Being Lady Capulet's nephew he despises the Montagues, and loves to stir the pot. Being a Capulet, and Juliet's cousin he obviously hated Romeo. Tybalt strikes Mercutio (Romeo's best friend), and this causes Romeo to act out of rage by killing Tybalt to get justice for Mercutio. He has done so much for Romeo and Juliet's relationship: he married them, let Romeo stay in his chamber, and gave Juliet the potion to help her appear dead for her false suicide and run away. The whole time he only wanted to make people okay, and it didn't matter to him as long as there were no sins committed. In the long run, while he was trying to only help Romeo and Juliet, his actions really lead up to the tragic deaths of the star crossed lovers. Romeo thought Juliet was actually dead so when he found out where she was buried instead of digging her up and taking her out, he drank poison so he would have to live a sad, long life without his beloved wife. In the end Friar Laurence confesses that he is most responsible and he will both accuse himself and clear himself of guilt. Friar Laurence feels very guilty for both deaths and eventually tells what caused Juliet's sadness when Tybalt died and Romeo was banished.
