Some, if not most, of these christians go to church regularly and listen to their pastor give a sermon. Sometimes, these christian don’t really pay attention to the sermons given by their pastors, they hear, but do not listen. Using scary language only worked for Edwards audience if they believed and were actually scared. Edwards says in his sermon, “The wrath of God is like great waters that are dammed for the present” (88).
