The main challenge of this group situation is that there was a sudden rise of conflict among members at the beginning to mid phase of the project. This resulted the possible development of groupthink (Janis, 2008). The case studies “The Battle Over Working as a Virtual Group” and “How Do You Manage Conflicting Needs and Goals?” are great examples of what truly happens in small groups everywhere. While “The Battle Over Working as a Virtual Group” (VG Case for short) displays what can potentially happen when forming a group that only communicates via the Internet and other means besides face-to-face interaction, it compares in many ways with “How Do You Manage Conflicting Needs and Goals?” (N&G Case for short); but also contains many differences as well. Looking at the VG Case, we see a group who was assigned an oral report about the Civil War and it was decided to make the group a virtual group in order to not find it necessary to meet face-to-face.…

Team communication and collaboration are very important elements in order to have a successful unit that can achieve its goals effectively. One way we can improve our collaboration and team communication is by having a meal together. Research, from Kevin Kniffin of Cornell University, shows that since eating is such a normal behavior, groups that have meals together regularly tend to be more cohesive teams. During Kevin’s research he found that firefighters who ate together claim they “feel like a family, and [having meals together] creates a focus when members aren’t out on the job”. These elements help the teams that had meals together preform twice as well as teams that don’t; this is why I propose we should have at least one group meal…
