Babies are distinct personalities showing common patterns of development. One baby can be cheerful while another can be fussy and another can be quiet and sleepy. “Social-emotional development includes the child’s experience, expression, and management of emotions and the ability to establish positive and rewarding relationships with others” (Cohen et al 2005).
As an infant I was very shy but happy child. My mom took great care of me during early infant days as I came 2 weeks before due-date. She efficiently managed infant care during my time, as she was well prepared. My sister was a great helper too as she was 3 years old. Development of trust for family and eventually a third person depends on the scaffold of trust parents provide. ‘Each age-level of development of the child is characterized by a social situation, with the specific predicament of being at just that stage of development, and one neo-formation above all others, plays the leading role in restructuring the mental life of the child, which Vygotsky calls the central neo-formation’-Andy Blunden in Vygotsky’s unfinished theory of child development.4 Authoritarian parenting practice inhibits the development of social competence which arises from several neo-formations of trust from infancy to childhood. identity confusion’ involves the development of a coherent sense of self and a valued role in society. Identity forms as young people resolve three major issues: the choice of occupation, adoption of values to live and development of a satisfying sexual identity. Parents’ encouragement towards my choice of occupation along with occupational and cultural socialization instilled a sense of identity and potential role in society in my mind. Hinduism and Indian cultural attributes lead to more conservative development and therefore, steered me away from rebellious and adolescent irrational behavior. Racial and ethnic identity was strongly infused to promote cultural customs and traditions that lead to an arranged marriage to a complete
