In reality, we are all a few different decisions away from being in the same circumstances as anyone else. The moment I had been waiting for finally occurred when the naloxone administration demonstration took place. Earlier in the event naloxone agents had been given out and were then used when a health care professional showed how you could save a life with this device in 5 seconds. I felt so proud of my contribution to the process of getting this product in the hands of the people that need them the most. Advocacy and policy created a change in my reality right before my eyes. I feel that it is crucial to indulge myself in knowing the ins and outs of this system to provide the best services to my future clients. Strengthening my knowledge on the law and the rights of all people will allow me to not only advocate for families and youth, but also bridge the gap between social work, and the justice system. I plan to do so by applying to law school after I receive my master’s in clinical social work. Receiving my Juris doctorate will allow me to have a compelling impact on the lives of the family and youth who are exposed to the system.
