I told her how I was feeling at the time I was around 10 years old. I told her that she was wrong for thinking another race was smarter than us hispanics I told her just because our skin was brown didn't mean I was dumb and couldn't learn. I told her I didn't have to be white to be smart all I had to do was try. I told her to stop her thoughts because they were stupid.
Than I brought my dad into the fight to teach her that being a different color other than white doesn't mean you're dumb. My dad got mad at her and told her exactly what I would tell her and she actually listened to my dad. She realized anyone in the world could be smart it just took effort. My mom now pushes us to become more educated and try to get good grades in school. My mom really changed her ways of thinking.
This is why I thought “Soledad Brothers” was really good because I could honestly relate to this book. It really made me feel like him and me aren’t different at all in a way we lived through the same thing. We both had our mom actually stick us in places to change like something we weren't.
