The Roman established themselves in the Peninsula roughly in 200 BC for over 600 years but they were not alone in the land there were tribes who were already there and the Romans fought the tribes which took them two centuries to defeat the tribes in the north in the area of Basque. The Romans brought with them beneficial developments for Hispania which were like a road system, theaters, basic things like baths. The Visigothic decided to establish themselves with their own capital in Toledo. The Visigothic did not do much to help the Roman empire, they just took more control and power and took advantages of their stay in Hispania.
Then towards the North of Spain there were the Moorish who invaded from the Peninsula from North Africa in 711 AD. There was lots of influence from the Moors in Al-Andalus, which now we know the cities as Cordoba, Seville and Granada. These cities are rich with Moors art and amazing sight seeing of what the Moors left behind in history.
Then come the Catholic Monarchs, which Fernando and Isabella had huge influences during their reign, They got married to unify their countries: Aragon and Castile. Everything started to change because now we were seeing a Spain coming together by the people of these countries and the Muslims were exiled from the Spanish territory. This was the period when Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas.
When the Americas were discovered in 1492 AD then many more conquistadors wanted to offer wealth to Spain and more colonies for Spain. The Spanish Empire was at its peak when Felipe II was in power and he was the one who name Madrid the capital of
