Do you remember that pleasant feeling when a brilliant idea flashed into your head?
Over 2000 years ago in ancient Greece, a physicist Archimedes was trying to solve a problem of physics. One day, while taking a bath, he suddenly got an inspiration, and discovered a breakthrough principle. He got so excited about this discovery that he leapt out the bathtub, ran through the streets without his clothes, and cried out, "Eureka!”: in English, “I’ve found it!”, the word to express our joy when we get a great idea we have sought.
Even in this 21st century, we know the special joy at the “Eureka” moments: when we come up with an idea about the theme of an important report, an idea about interesting expressions for our speech, an idea about a novel product in your business, or an idea about some birthday surprise for your girlfriend.
But, how often do you encounter such moments? There is something inevitable to get a “Eureka” moment. What is that? That is, to think, think and think., but let me explain. The biggest reason that we cannot hit upon great ideas is just because we lack the amount of time we spend thinking. You might say, “Is that all? Isn’t it too simple?” But think about it. No businessman produced novel products without trial and error. No great speaker can write a perfect speech in one night.
