Foua Yang, Lia’s mother is an intricate character formed by the trials she has faced in her life and her rich culture. All of this attributed to the way she cares deeply for Lia and remains faithful to her Hmong culture. Our personalities are similar in many ways, so if I were to be the social worker of this case I feel as though I could relate and gain trust from Foua in order to better care for Lia and respect the Hmong culture in the process. Lia’s mom, Foua and I have a lot in common as far as what we are passionate about, but are very different in life experience.…
Keeper’n Me, an award-winning book by Richard Wagamese, introduced an original perspective into the way the Indigenous peoples see the world around them. Today I worked on my patient Andrea Cabrera. She has generalized moderate chronic periodontitis with localized advanced periodontitis. I reviewed her medical history and had to update it because her physician changed her blood pressure medication. For both clinic section, her blood pressure was below 125/83. After doing a pre-procedure rinse with Listerine, I did an EIOE and everything was within normal limits.…
Question #2: What does this book remind you of in your own life? The book It’s Kind of A Funny Story by Ned Vizzini reminds me of my own life because of the main character, Craig. Craig is the kind of kid that has friends, but always feels alone, the kind of kid that forces themselves not to eat, the kid that goes to therapy because he never feels happy. He is the kind of person that struggles with depression on a daily basis and has a hard time getting themselves out of bed, due to the lack of motivation.…
It was too boring at the time. But now I can see why my parents always pushed for me to learn Spanish. It allowed me to be much more culturally “sensitive” in a very culturally diverse world. I guess the moral of this story was that if I took up the many opportunities that were present to me when I was young. I would be able to speak to all of my relatives and breeze through those pesky Spanish…

I was four years old when my family immigrated to the U.S. We lived in a predominantly white city. My first introduction to the American education system was a few months later when I entered kindergarten. As a recent immigrant, I had no knowledge of the English language. My memories remain of the difficulty this created for me and my inability to connect with my classmates resulted in isolation very early on.…
So it was a huge struggle for me. There were times that I would come home crying. In my opinion English is the hardest language to learn. The class work was really difficult for me. I couldn 't understand a single word of what the class was about.…
The ones I had a harder time with were Spanish and the classes that I felt neutral about. The trend cooperate with my life because in the 9th my sister was always checking up on me seeing if I was caught up in my classes (she was a junior at the time) and if I needed help I could go to her. The 10th grade came and she didn't really have time to…
Walla Walla University is centralized around its Christian beliefs, striving to bring out the talent that God has given to every student. As far as colleges go, I hold Walla Walla University in the highest regard. Being a Christian myself, I have come to cherish this Christian atmosphere and thirst for knowledge at Walla Walla. It is in this respect that I have for the University that I write this candid letter. I write this letter as an appeal for my readmission decision of the Spring of 2016, but even more so, to give my dream school another chance.…
Have you ever wanted something so bad that there became a burning passion growing inside you to gain that one thing? Olaudah Equiano is an excellent example of this freedom was his motivation, and he was not going to break until he tasted that sweet taste of accomplishing his goal. Equiano sets an excellent example of this in his life, the mentality and physical toughness to bend but not completely break. That is a quality that we can use in our own personal walk though this life. This autobiography is much more than just a book about slavery and freedom to me, as I began to read it, the book made me begin think about my own life.…
I hate math so much because I am awful at it. My teacher was a guy who also liked to talk about himself when he wasn’t yelling at everyone to stop yelling, swearing, and fighting. Yeah fighting on the second day of class there was a fist fight I was like where am I.I thought to myself that I was in a ghetto school and I wanted to leave. My other two classes were really long and boring but nothing really bad or exciting…
I hope that throughout the course of reading this paper, you will understand not only more about me, but also why I am this way. I was named after the leader, Joshua, who led the Israelites after Moses. My parents always thought that I would grow into a strong person, and a leader. From my father, Ismael Pereira DaSilva, I received my surname: DaSilva. As my middle and last name would suggest, my family originates overseas, specifically in Brazil.…
Vocation is a calling in life, a purpose to what you’re meant to do in life. I believe that vocation can consist of many different experiences that form your calling in life. For me, there has never been just one experience that has formed my vocation. My vocation always continues to expand with all the different experiences I’ve gone through my life so far; I bet that as the years go by and I get older, my vocation will keep growing. I see that the purpose of having a vocation is to be happy, to expand the way you see people and the world.…
The main issue in the film, Ded na si Lolo is the impact of culture, specifically of irrational beliefs. In the movie, it depicted our traditions and superstitions about family ties and wake. Ded na si Lolo featured how a family cope up with the death of a loved one. It perfectly shows the attitudes and practices of Filipinos that surrounds death, the funeral and the wake. Culture refers to the cumulative deposit of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, hierarchies, religion, notions of time, roles, spatial relations, concepts of the universe, and material objects and possessions acquired by a group of people in the course of generations through individual and group striving.…
