We talked about the definition of arms racing, which is a competition between two or more countries in order to have the best armed forces. Each country goes against other countries to produce larger number of weapons, armies, and military technology. In class, we talked about arms racing and how it related to IR in some ways. One of those ways is fighting for power. When a country built a certain type of powerful weapon, other countries feel they are under threat even if the first country built that powerful weapon for defense. So those countries do their best to build more powerful weapons until they feel they are forceful. And that goes on and on. Countries, such as France, N Korea, UK, USA, Pakistan, India, Israel, Russia, and China are competing for nuclear weapon to show how powerful is each country. Iran wanted to be in that competition but the United States prevented Iran from having nuclear program. Does that mean Iran is not willing to get it’s own nuclear program? I would like to say NO because Iran is in arms racing with Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries. So they want to show they strength to every country. There are many examples of arms racing in history such as naval arms race before and after WWI and nuclear arms race between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold
