Todays, many supermarkets have wisely incorporated technology to run their business smoothly and efficiently. Technology such as bar code system is used to tracks products, prices, and stock levels.
While the technology has made work easier and customer service better, people are still needed to do most of the jobs in a store. Employees with understanding of certain software or electronic devices serve customers better. Moreover, technology cut down employees’ workload. For instance, trained staffs have to recognise varieties of items, which was problematic given the low-cost. If the staffs have no idea what the product is, searching for the correct code is time consuming. As CSR affect positively on a corporate, many corporations involve more in CSR activities not excepting The Store. Not only concern for the wellbeing of employees, the community and civil society, The Store also has to pay close attention to environmental issue.
Environmentally friendly business practices in The Store can reduce negative effect in environment, enhance customer service, and create opportunities for greater efficiencies. For example, LED lighting is used in supermarket, including overhead track lights, spotlights on specialty areas & displays, exterior store signs and in the frozen food cases. It promotes less electricity consumption because it only uses half the wattage of traditional incandescent lighting. Besides, electronically commutated motors (ECM) in the refrigerated fixtures and walk-in coolers can deliver uniform airflow while reducing use of electricity. It brings benefits to the environment through reductions in greenhouse gases associated with conventional electric power
