The study takes place at the University of Kentucky where ten student veterans are interviewed over a period of time. The participants answered questions regarding their military experience, the strengths they believed they possessed, and an overview of their transition into the classroom. Overlying themes highlighted that many student veterans found that their military experience had provided a strong base for higher education. This source explores the student veteran perspective on one campus in the United States. In relation to my project this article proposes a variety of good points. The authors emphasize that student veterans from the study generally believe their military service brings forth a variety of strengths to be used in the classroom. They pointed out that the three most challenging aspects to the transition included social interaction, financial stress, and adjusting to a new culture. In terms of effectiveness the study reveals that student veterans could be more aware of the resources available and tend to express disappointment in the services currently available. This source also proposes a possible solution to the problems they find in their research. The authors believe that by using strength based approach, they can address the challenges student veterans face and continue to build on the strengths they already possess. These strengths included heightened self-discipline, leadership, and teamwork capabilities, as well as unique perspectives in comparison to their peers. The strength based approach will allow university personnel to take the discussed strengths and emphasize their importance throughout the transition. I find this possible solution to be interesting and am curious to know how universities would
