The problem in America is hunger. The essay “School’s Out for Summer” by Anna Quindlen informs people about how the children eat breakfast and lunch at school. Also, it can be hard applying for food stamps because of government issues. Furthermore, she says how the food can come to the children. Anna’s evidence in her essay is very effective and informational. She gives very well thought out examples of the hunger in America.
The first piece of evidence that shows effectiveness is when she says “Do the math: During the rest of the year fifteen million students get free or cut-rate lunches at school, and many of them get breakfast, too. But only three million children are getting lunches through the federal summer lunch program.” This evidence show effectiveness because she is informing us on the other 12 million children not getting into the summer lunch programs. The 12 million children could suffer from hunger if their parents are working at a minimum wage job or can’t work due to a disability. The parents can have more money struggles during the summer rather than in the school months because the children are fed by the schools every 5 days out of the week. …show more content…
The new welfare policies can make it difficult to be accepted to receive these food stamps. Another good statement in her essay is when she said “The average length of food stamp application is twelve often impenetrable pages; a permit to sell weapons is just two.” This shows how it is easier to sell weapons than to feed your
