Summary of Career Theory Each theory of career development are very similar, but yet very different at the same time. Some theories rely on multiple factors including personalities and the physical state of life, while others focus on one specific category such as value. The theory that made the most sense to me is the Super’s Life Span, Life Space Theory by Donald Super (Barbara E. Hagler And Connie K. Plessman, 2015, “Developmental Theories,” para. 1).
Donald’s Theory Donald’s Super theory of Super’s Life Span, Life Space Theory consists of 14 propositions which relate to each other in some way. Having multiple propositions makes it difficult to not relate to his theory. The most important preposition I considered is “People …show more content…
Due to living circumstances, I have to find a job in order to support myself with survival needs such as money and food. My first job at Chuck E. Cheeses’ is an entry level job that requires no additional skills besides being able to clean and be trained to fix games. As I progress, I realize how this job does not entail to just cleaning and fixing games. I had to be customer-friendly, wear a costume to entertain kids, and also learn cashier positions. At first, my working hours have been cut due to not being able to adapt to the many task I have to do. Later, I adapted quite a while and excel at any task I was given. After dedicated searches, I was able to find a bussing job at a restaurant called FU. Just like in the previous example of Chuck E. Cheeses’, I was a weak candidate due to the environment being different. After 3 months of learning the job, the servers and management team realize my potential and my performance skyrocketed. Survival needs were met and I was living a decent life. After almost a year at the restaurant business, I wanted to do more. Just like Life Career Rainbow of Donald Super, I am within the age of exploration. Exploration is the key element that was missing and the military was my saving
