Many people think the American Dream is just a “Dream” thats positive and everything is perfect because of other people's opinions and lies they tell. Alcohol and wealth may make you popular but if you didn't have that would the people like you? In the novel “The Great Gatsby”, F. Scott Fitzgerald shows that having money and wealth can be positive at times but mostly negative with all the effects and outcomes after Jay Gatsby's historic and amazing parties. In the novel Gatsby, Daisy, Tom, Nick, and the other main characters play a big role in the novel. Also along with Gatsby many people try to pursue the American Dream. He has so much money and alcohol he can get almost anything he wants whether that being a car or the love of his life (Daisy). Nick and Gatsby are having a talk before he goes downtown and Nick tells him that, “ "They're a rotten crowd, You're worth the whole damn bunch put together." If Daisy wouldn’t of been drinking she wouldn’t of been in the direction to hit Myrtle. “It’s a great advantage not to drink among hard drinking people.” This proves my argument on why drinking and not drinking plays a role. Jordan Baker made a very good point when she said that. When you do not drink among the rest of the unsober group then you do have an advantage to definitely help them out when they're acting stupid and could possibly save someone's life. If Gatsby would of driven and would have been sober then, in my opinion Myrtle would of not have
