Huang (2014) states that there are three primary issues in accounting for presupposition. The first one being identified is presupposition failure. Presupposition failure has been greatly debated among many professors, with Frege (1892) putting forth that if there is an expression X containing the properties of presupposition failure, then whichever sentence contains such expression X cannot have a truth value. Among other professors, there are debates whether or not expression X can contain a truth value.Russell (1905) denies Frege 's claims and is not satisfactory for him. He starts by taking variables and constituents to produce a language of philosophy. He states that a sentence should always hold a truth value, even if Frege’s theory may avoid contradictions, it seems irrelevant if sentences cannot hold completeness. Even within each theory, it is just a theoretical notion, within the scope of the projection theory and pragmatics as a whole. Soundness is the notion of integrating logics that prove formulas within given semantics in a language to help preserve truth and validity. Completeness is the notion of having any formula in the system of a logic / language that can be derived into it’s own formula. Although, within theorems and logics, some completeness has to be given up for soundness and vice versa, there is no one logic or theorem that is fully complete nor sound. It would seem that the scope of what …show more content…
Accommodation has many different notions, the one being presented Fintel (2006) uses the definition of presupposition accommodation as the changing of context in a quiet manner and without uproar to accept the utterance of the sentence that puts “certain requirements” on the context in which it is processed. Common ground theory is thereby listed as given any conversation, there will be common ground for a conversational in which the speakers of the conversation set propositions for, and which time is assumed to not be taken granted for. The assumptions are that in the common ground all propositions are true within the context set and the set of worlds. The common ground is an unorthodox way to show the potential outcomes and scenarios given the time set. Over time the context set diminishes due to false
