My direct boss our kitchen manager is a younger man who is still trying to figure out the best way to be a leader. I am very much an old school individual when it comes to kitchen managers needing to have 24-hour accountability. He struggles with this as well as how he talks and deals with his employees. He has no problem demoralizing anyone or treating them like they are sub-par if he is having an off day. Yet, he is not the worst I have seen in my corporation. That crown goes to our regional vice president. A few weeks ago, our store had a random visit from him as well as our regional manager and the president of our company. I have worked in the restaurant business for over 10 years and have never witnessed something as appalling as this visit. I watched in horror as Dave, the bar manager, and service manager were raked over the coals. This man walked in with an attitude and began talking to all of us as if we were children. After that he turned to our bar manager and asked him a question and when he could answer call him an idiot. He stormed through the kitchen throwing things and screaming at all kitchen staff. It was honestly the hardest four hours of my entire career. Sadly, all we could do was try and make it through it and not lose our own tempers.
