The dictionary definition of pride is “a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction from one’s own achievements” and “having an excessively high opinion oneself or one’s importance. The Bible says pride is a sin but are there exceptions to that?
In Proverbs 8:13, it says “to fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance”. To fear the Lord means to respect and obey him. To hate pride and arrogance means to give God all the glory. So from this we can tell we need to respect God and give him all the glory. In Psalm 10:4 it says “In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thought there is no room for God”. One parable that represents this is the Lost Son. A man has two sons. The younger one asks for his share of the estate and the family wealth and left the family for a distance county. After he used up all the money he had and was working as a pig feeder he thought to himself about the hired-servants at his father 's house. How they had extra food. He decided he would go back to his father and ask for forgiveness. He would ask his father if he could work as a hired-servant. The brother asked why are you having a party for the younger brother. “I have always done what you have asked” he said, “but I have never gotten this”. His father told him that everything he had was his. He told him they were celebrating because the his son was dead but is alive again. This is a good example of no matter how far we get from God, …show more content…
If you are prideful but give God the credit of helping you achieve the accomplishment it is not sinful pride. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God”. From this we can tell that if we are to be prideful, we must give the glory to God. I agree with this, but find it hard to remember to give God the glory he deserves.
We all sin and pride is one of those sins. It is actually one of our most frequent sins because pride is at the root of almost all sins. This is true because pride is centered around “self” which is the root of most sins. This is present at all times. Who am I going to eat lunch with? What am I doing after school? Who am I going it hang out with? What am I doing over the weekend? All these questions are centered are me, myself. Not God, but myself. This is a problem and is driving me away from God. So my question to you is to you, how do you think you are handling your
