He is known for his work on the Periodic Law and the creation of the very first periodic table. Mendeleev dedicated many years of his life to collecting information about all the 63 elements that had been discovered during his time. Mendeleev had noticed that there were groups of different elements with very similar atomic masses and other chemical properties. Mendeleev had created the periodic law which is a law stating that the elements, when listed in order of their atomic numbers, fall into recurring groups, so that elements with similar properties occur at regular intervals. Mendeleev was then able to arrange the elements on the periodic table by the increasing atomic mass he even left gaps in the very first periodic table he created for the elements that had yet to be discovered as shown in the graph below. Mendeleev had devised this diagram based on the gaps in the atomic masses of all the known elements at the time and had made calculations to leave blanks within his theory for other scientists to add in elements that will be discovered later …show more content…
The methods and theories that will be summarised are how the Big Bang theory had created the very first and lightest elements in our universe, and also how red giants have contributed to creating more elements such as carbon, nitrogen and oxygen whilst the supernovas had contributed to creating elements heavier than iron such as Uranium and Gold. Another major theory that can be summarised from the report is that Dmitri Mendeleev had made himself a major breakthrough with his discovery of the periodic table and an even bigger achievement of leaving gaps in it based on the recurring atomic masses and mathematics allowing other scientists to add in elements that will be discovered later
