Having an understanding of what triggers your own personal sexual desires is important. As humans we are often unaware of what turns us on since we do not determine strategies and methods to achieve absolute pleasure. In the academic journal, author Walter Everaerd states:
Knowledge about the regulation of sexual emotion may add to the understanding of sexual problems such as diminished sexual desire and hyper sexuality. To investigate the regulation of sexual arousal by means of attentional focus in healthy sexually functional men and women. Using a habituation design with attentional strategies, it was investigated whether a focus on hot, emotional information of sexual stimuli would sustain or amplify sexual responses, whereas a focus on cool, cognitive information would weaken sexual responses (Everaerd 23).
Individual sexual desires can benefit a person’s ability to live a healthy sexual lifestyle. Steroid hormones are also included in sexual behavior hormones. The two main steroid hormones are androgens and estrogens. Men and women produce both types of hormones. Sexual attraction is also determined through certain parts of an individual’s body. The two areas of the erogenous zones that stimulate pleasure are aphrodisiacs and anaphrodisiacs. Aphrodisiacs are the substances believed to arouse sexual desire and develop more room for sexual activity. Examples of aphrodisiacs include food, substance drugs and alcohol, and yohimbine. There is currently no evidence to support the role of expectations that aphrodisiacs serve as. Anaphrodisiacs are substances that inhibit human sexual behavior. Examples of this stimulation are drugs such as tranquilizers, anti depressants, birth control pills, and nicotine. Nicotine has the ability to constrict blood flow and reduces testosterone circulation. Two types of steroid hormones that affect sexual behavior are androgens and estrogens. Androgens are produced the reproductive organs in both males and females. They are located in the ovaries, adrenal glands, and testes. Estrogens are familiarly produced in both the male and female reproductive glands, the ovaries and testes. Women and men produce both types of steroid hormones. A neuropeptide hormone that affects sexual behavior is oxytocin. This is the hormone that controls and dispenses milk from a woman’s
