This was the date of the Boston Massacre, which was, in no sense, truly a massacre. In Boston there were many people who felt as though Britain was hurting America. On the evening of March 5th, a group of rioters formed around British soldiers. They started to throw a lot of things at the soldiers, trying to get a rise out of them. The rioters threw snow, ice, rocks, and oyster shells. Meanwhile, the group of rioter continued to grow. At a certain point, one of British soldiers fired on the Americans. No one knows who fired the first shot, but after the first one, the rest of the soldiers fired at the rioters. The rioters fled, but eight colonists were left dead on the road. After the "massacre", Paul Revere, a silver smith, created an engraving that portrayed the riot as a true massacre and fueled the Bostonian, and American feelings towards the British.
After the Boston Massacre, Britain repealed all of the Townshend Acts, except for the tax on tea. In addition to leaving the tax on tea, Pariliament passed the Tea Act of 1770. This act, in short, allowed the East India Company to sell their tea, without being taxed, to Americas. This was a despereate attempt by Britain to get money from the colonists. This tax was also designed to show the colonists that Britain could impose taxes on whatever they wanted. To say the least, this did not sit well with the
