2. Setting
a) The story takes place in the present, because for example Christopher uses a computer. Furthermore there are many cars, taxi’s and other transport. Here you can read a quote wherein Christopher is playing a game on his computer and a taxi arrives.
“And I was playing The Eleventh Hour on my computer that evening when a taxi stopped outside the house. Mr Shears was in the taxi and he got out of the taxi and he got out of the taxi and threw a big cardboard box of things belonging to Mother onto the lawn.” (p.259)
In the next quotation, Christopher talks about his Father’s …show more content…
Christopher writes a lot. When he heard that his neighbours dog, Wellington, is killed he decides to write a book about the mystery. He wants to find out who killed Wellington.
For example every day he determines whether it is a good, a quite good, super good or a black day. Here follows a quotation where he describes who he determines every day.
“Mr. Jeavons, the psychologist at the school, once asked me why red cars in a row made it a Good Day, and 3 red cars in a row made it a Quite Good Day, and 5 red cars in a row made it a Super Good Day, and why 4 yellow cars in a row made it a Black Day, which is a day when I don’t speak to anyone and sit on my own reading books and don’t eat my lunch an Take No Risks. He said that I was clearly a very logical person, so he was surprised that I should think like this because it wasn’t very logical.
I said that I liked things to be in a nice order. And one way of things being in a nice order was to be logical. Especially if those things were numbers of an argument. But there were other ways of putting things in a nice order. And that was why I had Good Days and Black days.” (p.31)
This quote describes really good the inside of Christopher. He has rules and ‘logical’ …show more content…
When he find out who killed the dog he is in shock and decides to stop writing the book, because than everyone would know that Christopher’s father had killed the dog.
7. Opinion
I liked the story very much. I’ve learned a lot of autism and I think I will understand people with autism much more than before. The author has written very realistic. I believed everything and it was as I was going everywhere with Christopher. Christopher describes all in details and I liked that, because you can create an imagine. However it is easy to read (maybe thus a little bit too easy).
Moreover I liked the math puzzles and sums, sometimes it was very difficult but also very fascinating. He uses his math skills to relax and for example when he is waiting for someone/something in a crowded area.
Besides one person in 100 has some kind of autism, so it’s important that more people understand what it means to live every day with
