Electronic cigarettes are new so obviously there are many questions on whether these devices are safe, if the chemicals used to make the liquid are harmful, and if second-hand smoke is safe to inhale. The only people who need to be concerned about the nicotine levels of the vapor are actually vapers themselves. This is because the smoke can not do harm to anybody else. The exposure to the smoke is harmless because there is not second hand vapor so it is physically harmless (Burstyn 13). Second hand vapor is harmless, as where second hand smoke from tobacco is equally bad. Smoking tobacco is primarily the number one cause of cardiac and lung disease, which is predicted to kill 1 billion people in the 21st century (Farsalinos 1). Electronic …show more content…
Siegel indicates, “This study provides preliminary evidence that electronic cigarettes are not currently serving as a major gateway to cigarette smoking” (1). This study only shows the information that has been taken as of right now, and there needs to be continued research that shows whether electronic cigarettes lead to smoking tobacco (Siegel 1). Although e-cigs do not have a tremendous amount of long term study, professionals indicate that these devices may turn out to be healthier than tobacco (“As Smokers…” 1). Now with later concerns is that teenagers will be lead to using tobacco cigarettes because of …show more content…
E-cigarettes have become extremely popular and now offer many variable flavors, which have not had an immense amount of research done to explain the effects (“The Smoke…” 1). Consequently, because electronic cigarettes are new they raise an astounding amount of questions on how these devices work and if they are safe (“The Smoke…” 1). In addition, electronic cigarettes are creating competition between major cigarette companies as well as smoking aid companies (“The Smoke…” 1). Although research has started to be collected, many think that all of this data is biased, and is being pointed in the direction the researchers want it to go (“The Smoke...” 1). Research shows that smoking just one cigarette causes significant acute myocardial dysfunction while electronic cigarettes shows no acute effects on cardiac function (Farsalinos 1). Both the electronic cigarette and the tobacco cigarette release nicotine into the body (Farsalinos 1). Electronic cigarettes dispenses the nicotine slower than tobacco (Farsalinos 1). E-cigs are rechargeable with an external battery source which can be used for much longer than a pack of cigarettes; therefore, e-cigs cost much less than cigarettes on an everyday basis (“Big Tobacco...” 1). Between the two, electronic cigarettes have the advantage simply because of the cost, the health, and the
