Ralph is athletic but as a chief, he shows order, civilization, and productive leadership; the type of person they want as their chief. Ralph is William Golding’s way of showing what he thinks of a government leader, just like the non stop communication between the two villages in The Butter Battle Book. The Butter Battle Book was written by Dr. Seuss during the period of the cold war. The book was written as an allegory for the war just like Lord of the Flies was written for the cold war as well. With the two books, Ralph would be the Yooks and Jack would be the Zooks. This is because Ralph runs his group how he wants while Jack runs tribe differently and seperate. Ralph wants a good government that he thinks he is sustainable but so does Jack which is similar to the villages and their bread. It’s just that in Ralph’s eyes, he sees darkness towards Jack but in Jack’s eyes to Ralph he sees something he’s not okay with. They have totally different perspectives of how to run things. In the book, it states “‘It’s high time you knew of the terribly horrible thing the Zooks do. In every Zook house and in every Zook town every Zook eats his bread with the butter side down!” (Seuss, page 4). This quote shows how Ralph thinks of Jack. Like he’s this horrible person for running things he doesn't like. This connects to William Golding’s theory on a sustainable government because they have their own theories for government but they don’t like the other person’s idea which is part of having a government; not everything can be
