The first pyramid was the pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara (Mark, 2016). This pyramid was built, for the pharaoh of the time, to be used as a tomb. The pyramid was made of mainly stone, as were the other pyramids later built.
The Great pyramid is the largest pyramid and last of the wonders of the ancient world. The pyramid was built in Giza, Egypt in approximately 2560BC (Meisner, 2012). For 3000 years the Great Pyramid was the tallest building in the world (Mark, 2016). …show more content…
This is because there are no records of how the pyramids were actually built. Of the many theories there seems to be an agreement on the basic mathematical principles used to construct the pyramids. The three main geometrical features used to build the Great Pyramid were Pi, Phi and the Pythagorean theorem.
Phi is an irrational number expressed as: φ = (1+√5)/2 = 1.618033988749895... or 1.618 approximately
“Phi is also known as the golden mean, golden ratio or golden number”. (Eather, 2014)
Phi is the only number whose square is the same value as itself plus 1.
The Pythagoras theorem states that: given a right-angled triangle, the square of the two shorter sides are equal to the square of the hypotenuse. This can be demonstrated by:
Using the Pythagoras theorem and the properties of phi we can demonstrate how the Great pyramid might possibly be
