Human trafficking is the third fastest growing criminal activity being perpetrated around the world, after drugs and arms trafficking. It has been reported that approximately 21 million men, women, and children across every continent and all socioeconomic backgrounds are victims of human trafficking (ExoduscCry.com, n.d.). It has also been reported that on a yearly basis 800,000 men, women, and children are trafficked across international borders (Dosomething.org, n.d.).

According to the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), the three main categories of labor trafficking are bonded labor, forced labor, and child labor (Acf.hhs.gov, 2012). Many individuals who are victims of labor trafficking come from places that have high rates of oppression, illiteracy, and very few economic opportunities (Acf.hhs.gov, 2012). In situations where individuals have been rescued, reintegration into society is very difficult because of the shame, the stigma, and trauma that were experienced during the period of their enslavement. The statistics around human trafficking are astounding and yet much of earth’s population is oblivious to its existence. Thankfully however, there are many organizations that have risen to the occasion in an effort to combat and raise awareness about human trafficking. These organizations include the Polaris Project, Prajwala, Urban Light, GoodWeave, and the Empower Foundation. Governments around the world such as India, Sweden, Denmark, Cambodia, South Korea, and the United States have also stepped up their efforts by implementing laws to prevent and address human trafficking.
In order to eradicate this horrible enterprise and bring perpetrators to justice, individuals need to become educated about the subject, become each others keeper and realize that victims of human trafficking do not deserve the horror that they are dealt. Citizens of the world need to immobilize and take action in order to remove the head of this monster and render this world safe not only for children but for all human
