During this time Britain’s economy was supported by slave trade and the thought of stopping the slave trade was ridiculous. In order to spread the word about the horrors of slavery, The Society for the Abolition of the Slave Trade had a “distribution of abolitionist books, pamphlets, prints and artefacts” (Oldfield “British Anti-slavery”). The people behind this society fought hard and long to get the freedom of slaves within the British Empire. They saw the pain and death that the slaves were put through and had to do prevent from more people being put through these horrors. They showed compassion towards their fellow human beings. The gift of mercy was used to show that all humans deserve the same rights and treatment; they were able to rally people and spread the information about what the slaves were put through while they were being carried aboard the slave ships. The Society was able to put an end to slave trade within the British Empire and free all slaves within the jurisdiction of the British Empire. They must not hold grudges against their neighbors, but forgive them upon the fault. This forgiveness permits both parties to continue on and to grow closer to each other. A person of faith can pray for those who have wronged them; pray for God’s forgiveness of them. They should spread forgiveness and influence others to do the same because without forgiveness the world would be different and colder. One can show compassion by helping people who are in need of help such as the homeless or the poor. A person can participate in food drives, soup kitchens, gathering of supplies necessary to live.
