Digital technology is something that is starting to become very popular in education. Advances in modern technology have dramatically changed the field of early childhood education. Digital learning tools suddenly have an increased role in childhood settings. Many of these technologies have positive uses in such environment as a home or school. Such applications can help a child do many vital skills such as writing and reading and drawing. The words Digital Technologies refers to the use of digital resources to successfully find, analyze, create, communicate, and make use of information in a digital context. One side supports the use of technology in the classrooms and thinks it is beneficial, while the other side views technology in the classroom as something not important and unnecessary. When used correctly technology can benefit children in a number of different ways. For example, students are known to have better discipline when they use computers because the computers encourage self-control. Also students who learn information on computers are known to achieve higher academic status than other students. Computers also encourage independent learning in students. Also not every child is going to be able to have the resources to use technology in the classroom. For example, schools in the more urban areas may not have a budget that allows them to use technology in the classroom because it is too expensive. The American Academy of Pediatrics discourages a lot of screen time for youngsters beneath 2 years old, however the NAEYC/Fred Rogers position statement takes a rather completely different stance. It states that technology and media ought to be restricted, however what matters most is how it's used. Also, if you use too much technology in the classroom, you run the risk of teaching above a student’s developmental level. Another con to using technology in the classroom would be that it limits the student’s use of his or her own imagination. Some other reasons why technology should not be used in the classroom is because computers are only one way of learning, there are so many other ways to learn without using technology.
