Some focus on the sexual vocabulary that partners use to discuss sexuality, and some people focus on the communications skills that are needed to achieve satisfaction. Men and women use different terms to describe their sexual experiences. People in relationships tend not to be forthcoming with their wants and needs when it comes to satisfying sexual encounters. They fail to communicate effectively with their partners. The couples may share a general agreement about their sexual relations, but don’t share the true likes and dislikes.
It all comes down to the dynamics of the couple. In a relationship where both partners express their own needs, you can see an increase in effective sexual communication. It’s important that the partners learn to accept feedback from their partners without being over defensive or turn to resentment. Open sexual communication requires a high level of trust and acceptance.

Some parents don’t allow and don’t encourage their teenagers to talk open about sex and sexual issues; therefore they are either suppressing the sexual communication or talk to others, such as out of the home, school or street. Unfortunately, these teenagers will feel awkward and more uncomfortable to speak about it. It’s important for parents to recognize that talking to our children is a very important part of their communication process. If parents fail to acknowledge their child’s need to communicate about their sexual curiosity, they should not be surprised that suppressed feeling and insecurities will follow their children through adulthood.
Studies suggest that parents who speak with their children open and freely, provide good resources, caring communication and support will more likely delay sexual activity than their peers. Not being comfortable with their sexual communication skills can also lead to misuse of their sexuality.
