African American communities have a lot of factors that lead to obesity. For instance, access to nutrition and healthy food is a major problem within this population. Another major factor that influences the cause of obesity in African Americans is racism. Today, racism still exists in the U.S. A lot of African Americans are still treated poorly and unfairly. This puts a lot of stress on the population which leads to health issues. Body images is portrayed differently than the white population. For example, the holidays are coming up. Many families celebrate by feasting on scrumptious foods. Every culture is different, but a lot of us turn to tasty meals to make us feel happier.
Poverty/Income- Many Americans today have a limited income, and sometimes that income is just not enough to buy healthy fruits and vegetables. Also, when living in a low- income community, access to healthier foods are much harder to find. Unhealthy food is easier to find and cheaper than healthy food.
