There are only 2 procedures that can be done during the third trimester and that is Induction Abortion and Dilation and Extraction. A dilation and extraction abortion is done after 21 weeks of gestation. It is also known as D&X, Intact D&X, Intrauterine Cranial Decompression and Partial Birth Abortion. There are currently 31 states in which abortion is illegal and those states consist of Arizona, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The other 19 states have limitations with the abortions. However, Hawaii has no regulations against abortions. In the same fashion, children should not be brought into a world where they are not wanted and not properly cared for. Child care requires a huge amount of responsibility and, of course, money. If a woman is raped, she should not have to carry through with a pregnancy that she was forced with. This is why I believe states should decide to make abortion legal or illegal in their territory. The federal government should only intervene when the states refuse to protect the rights of the unborn. However, I do think that there should be certain conditions that apply. If a state should decide to legalize abortion, they must do the abortion in the first trimester. Second or third trimester abortions should not be allowed due to the fact that at this time in the pregnancy the baby is almost fully developed. For teens, parent consent should be required. Equally important, a 24 hour waiting period and mandatory counseling should be mandatory for all who seek an abortion.
