Throughout african american history within the United States of America, the race has always been subjected to many hardships that other races have not experienced, such as Slavery, systematic poverty and racism, even within the workforce and educational systems. All african americans have ever wanted was to receive basic rights that a caucasian man would. The Lives of african americans have never been seen as important as a caucasians and finally people are beginning to see and work to stop this social injustice. #BlackLivesMatter began in 2012, after Trayvon Martin’s murderer George Zimmerman was acquitted for manslaughter. There are four people at the center of the standoff which include Dwight Hammond Jr., Steven Hammond, Ammon Bundy, and Ryan Bundy as well as 5 other men. The reason behind the standoff stems from many situation in the past. Dwight and Steven were convicted on charges of arson on their ranch. One charge being in 2001 to hide the fact that they were poaching deer on their property illegally and the second charge being in 2006 for the same situation. The government was looking for the Hammonds to pay the 1 million dollars in damages they had created. The federal government then sentenced The Hammonds to a minimum of 5 years in federal prison. After serving their time, the Hammonds were then released from prison but were told they did not serve the legal time for arson and were sentenced once more. With that being said, the Hammonds were angered by their decision and decided to take actions into their own hands. The Bundy brothers come into the situation because their father, Cliven Bundy also owes the government 1 milion for propetry voilations and other problems within his property. Ryan Bundy did a phone interview and listed their demand as this “ We have basically taken over the Malheur Wildlife Refuge. And this will become a base place for patriots from all over the country to come and be housed here and to live here. And
