With that, I furthered my research, where I found a passage of a book called Childhood, disrupted. The book was written by Donna Jackson Nakazawa, a credible science journalist. Donna gives two examples to give her audience an idea of childhood trauma and its effects, in her examples the characters are mentioned to be the ages of ten and twelve. She also mentions the age of fifteen, which correlates with the information I heard in a Ted Talk. The speaker in the Ted Talk was Katy Pasquariello, she was addressing the subject of healing from childhood trauma. During her speech, she says that children and teenagers believe that they deserve the abuse and that it’s their fault they are getting abused. In 2012, it was estimated that there were 686,000 victims of child abuse ranging from infancy to the last year of high school and that 70% of children who have died because of child abuse was, in fact, two or …show more content…
From the research, I can see that there are lots of causes for trauma and that the ones that I found may not even be all of them. It’s good that people are trying to open the eyes of the public because trauma has many long-term effects on the brain and body.

Childhood trauma is the seventh out of ten most leading cause of death in just the United States. Trauma impacts areas of emotional health, immune system, hormonal system, physical health, mental health, brain development as well as personal relationships. The organization known as the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), gave me a good understanding of the basic long-term effects of childhood trauma.
