Intelligence Final Draft
“There are no great limits to growth because there are no limits of human intelligence, imagination, and wonder.” – Ronald Reagan. Intelligence is the capability to obtain and apply learning and abilities. Scientists nowadays believe that intelligence is a trait that is passed down through generations; in other word it is genetic. Well I’m here to tell you that this is not true. Intelligence is not something passed down by your parents, but is something that you gain in life. Howard Gardner developed the theory of multiple intelligences in 1983. It states that the established idea of intelligence that is normally based on I.Q. testing is far too restricted, so he identified seven distinct intelligences that human individuals have the capacity to possess. The first type is visual-spatial, which includes visual impression of the environment, the capacity to make and control mental pictures. Second we’ve got Bodily/Kinesthetic and it involves physical organization and dexterity, using fine and gross motor skills, and stating oneself or learning through physical activities. The third type is musical which Involves a person who uses rhythmic movements or dance to understand and express himself. The fourth one is interpersonal, and it is the ability to understand, communicate and work with other individuals. Intrapersonal is the fifth kind and it includes comprehension of one 's world of feelings and thoughts, and developing in the capacity to control them and work with them purposely. The sixth type is linguistic, and it includes writing, reading, speaking, using words effectively. The last type is logical-mathematical, and it involves numbers and identifying patterns and solving problems using logic. On the other hand, Successful intelligence is the type of intelligence used to accomplish essential goals. First of all, a wide variety of classes were offered that each specialized in maintaining and augmenting a specific type of intelligence. Also some linguistic classes such as English included variety of learning styles from reading to bodily movements that ranged from skits and acting to movement and kinesthetic games. The transition to high school did not feel that much different. the classes offered were even more varied, but this time, each student got to pick their own classes, in which they can furthermore strengthen a specific type of intelligence. This was a very smart move done by the school as it helps each and every student discover their own selves and prepare themselves for any future
