There is a sense of entitlement, wanting handouts and feel as if everyone owes them something. They lack independency and rely on others to support them. There is a need for instant gratification as everything is easily accessible. They lack social and interpersonal skills because they communicate primarily through technology (text messages, videos, and social media). Census Bureau reported 35% children living in single parent households; an increase from traditionally structured two family homes. This lack of structure contributes to their mentality and different family values. Their values and beliefs differ from those of generations X and Y. Their work ethics and loyalty for an employer are significantly different. Commitment is challenging to them, and they do not value time, relationships, or friendships. The values, attitudes, and beliefs of today’s youth and society coupled with external forces challenge Army recruiters to find high quality civilians with the propensity to
