Assignment # 3 For this third assignment I had to do some research first to find an artist that was out of the norm and different. Sure, the one I picked is extremely famous and others might pick him as well but what he did in his lifetime and the meanings to some of his of his paintings/drawings are what that truly evoked me into picking him for this assignment. The artist’s work is noteworthy due to the fact that in 2 out 3 his paintings/drawings it shows great emotion that everyone is able to see but in the other painting he leaves people to question as to what he was trying to portray. Also, how …show more content…
The artist I have chosen for this assignment is Vincent Van Gogh. Vincent Van Gogh has been nothing less than ordinary with his life. For example, everyone knows of the artist who cut off his ear and sent it to a prostitute. Also, Van Gogh’s physical and mental state was potentially caused by sipping on turpentine and eating paint. Although, Van Gogh passed away on July 29th,1890 from shooting himself in the chest and dying in his brother Theos arms, he is now one of the most known artist in existent with some of his paintings going upward of 82.5 million dollars.
Starry Night, 1889 Starry Night was made roughly a year before Vincent Van Gogh passed away. He made this painting while he was in an asylum from telling people around him that he was dangerous. Van Gogh …show more content…
For example, the lines that are presented to show the shading of the curb of which she is sitting on. Also, the shape/ form that is used is amazing because it displays her slouched over, her head is down, and her arms are crossed and covering her face. The style of work Van Gogh made with Sorrow was realism, with all the detailed in the pictures I believe it couldn’t be any other style. It is believed that Sien was pregnant at the time Vincent Van Gogh drew this work of art. The drawing is of Sien that is a young prostitute who Van Gogh saved from the streets and later on he wanted to marry her after were in a relationship from 1882 to September 1883. Also, in the drawing there is a subliminal picture that people say represents their last kiss goodbye. In conclusion this image is portrayed to show sadness and sorrow and it clearly shows that with what is presented is that the lady is naked and on the street which tells us she is not wealthy because the wealthy were all dressed up definitely would not be sitting on the street/curb. Sien eventually hurled herself into a canal and drowned herself in 1904.
Sien Nursing Baby (1882)
This image really stood out to me for a couple facts. Firstly, Sorrow and Sien Nursing baby are in connection because Sien is the prostitute that is in Sorrow as I said above. Secondly, Although Sien had sorrow/sadness in the past she is showing comfort and a sense of happiness in this drawing.
