Disadvantages of the Use of Smartphones and Social Media in Healthcare Looking into the disadvantages of the Use of Smartphones and Social Media in healthcare; the rapid growth of social media has created an ethical dilemma for healthcare professionals by not knowing where to draw the lines between what should go on the social media and what not. HIPAA rules of safeguarding patient’s information can be violated easily without knowing by just a click on the smart phones. The smart phones ability to take instant pictures which can be posted on social media spontaneously is amazing and should be used cautiously by healthcare professionals. For many, posting pictures, videos and sharing information on the social media via the smart phones has become a norm and a habit difficult to break by. The nurse in the case scenario posted her patient’s picture on social media without thinking about the consequences of actions. The patient’s confidentiality was jeopardized not deliberately but due to negligence and addiction to social media
