Lobbyists and Interest Groups in Texas
Interest groups are a group of people who have a common interest and seek to influence public policy. They are a crucial factor through which citizens in United states make their views and ideas known to elected officials. They work closely with the congress and influence a lot in American politics. The number of interest groups has increased dramatically in recent years and it is difficult to hear any American society which is not represented by it. Their primary activity is lobbying the members of legislative bodies through contribution to political parties. Their main focus is on the issues that benefits a certain group of people. They encourage the congress members to vote and work with congress members to prepare legislation. Interest groups hire lobbyists to carry out their works. They help to pass a bill which are introduced by the interest groups, organizations or charities that help certain group of people.

In the same way interest groups also have their pros and cons. The pros are that they promote democracy. They protect the rights and interests of minority among the majority. They give freedom to express one’s opinion and suggestions, especially of minorities. If they want, they can create a huge change in the society because they are very influencive and impactful. They also provide positive solutions to the problems of society. Whereas, the cons are, that interest groups usually always look from the perspective of minorities only. Since they have more financial resources, some interest groups also exist who make decisions for their own benefits. These kinds of people are harmful for the people and society. Another con is that since they require huge amount of funds to lobby, they also engulf in criminal activities like corruption, bribery, theft
