Although South Korea’s president refused to sign, the United Nations (U.N.), North Korea, the Soviet Union and China agreed to the armistice on July 27th 1953. Under those circumstances the U.S. officials and the Soviet Union agreed to separate the peninsula along the 38th parallel, this has in fact became known as the most unstable border. While the conflict between the North and South has not been uncommon, for over 65 years the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) still remains intact.
