I felt sad and pity for these women. I, personally, watch my diet and work out, but not to the point of such an extreme. These women suffer psychologically and need support from friends and families as well as treatment from health care professional.
c. What do you think is the primary reason that these individuals’ condition progressed to such an extreme level?
Looking at the pictures, I would say the primary reason is a social factor that contributes to anorexia in these females. Media is the main contributor to the eating disorders. 4. What can you do to help a family or friend who might be showing signs of an eating disorder?
Firstly, I would express my concern about my friend’s or family member’s weight and their unusual behavior. Secondly, I would help them to increase their food intake in order to reach a healthy weight. Thirdly, I would recommend seeing a therapist resolve underlying causes of eating disorder. The possible treatments could be education, psychotherapy, or antidepressants.
5. Why do you think eating disorders are more common in females than males, and what role do you think the media plays in this?

Males, in turn, have lower expectations from their body image. The male eating disorder is known as muscle dysmorphobia, maintaining perfect body through excessive exercising and steroid abuse. Media is a big contributor to eating disorders among teenage girls especially. The study shows that teenage girls who watched the modeling show three times a week showed dissatisfaction with their bodies and tended to develop eating disorders comparing to those who didn’t watch the show (Comer). The images of models are perceived to be beautiful and women
