Why I Want To Be A Prison Counselor

The top three jobs I chose to research include Forensic Psychologist, Criminalist, and Correctional Counselor. I decided to pick these three since they were on my list of job interests and they seemed interesting enough. Although, surprisingly enough, it was mildly difficult to choose only three.
A main problem throughout the world, especially in heavily populated places, is crime. No matter how much people might wish for the planet to be nonviolent and harmonious, crime will not stop or disappear overnight. Therefore, the next best thing is to prevent criminals from performing illegal acts as well as punish them to further deter lawbreaking. As their name denotes, prison counselors provide counseling to inmates (Becoming a Prison Counselor). Their main goal is to assist offenders in being regular, law-abiding citizens once they are released. Correctional counselors have many duties, though the most prominent include in giving psychological tests and organizing services such as education or training for inmates. Some of their other responsibilities involve assisting offenders find housing, jobs, or more counseling, and cooperating with parole officers, along with other criminal justice employees, to help create plans for parole among other things.
There are various positives and negatives when considering correctional counseling, but one of the major concerns is working with potentially dangerous individuals. Taking into account the atmosphere of the prison, the difficulty of working with offenders who refuse to stay on their rehabilitation plan and continuous deadlines, the work environment for a prison counselor can be stressful as well as possibly
