Now, contrary to my belief that it is possible, there are some reasons that a percentage of people today do not believe the dream is reachable. Some of those reasons are that there are too many obstacles ahead of them or that in today’s society, most people no longer desire this dream; therefore, they give up on the idea of trying or even coming to the great land of hope to dream of attaining the unimaginable. There is also the issue with white supremacy which continues to control or influence the country that makes it impossible for some to go from “zero to hero” or to go from poverty to wealth, or to go from being no one to being someone. Another argument that most non-believers make is that you must be dealt the right cards. That if you do not have the right amount of luck then an opportunity that you cannot live the American dream lingers in some minds. But, this is not true because at the end of the day you are in control of your own destiny and no one else. As mentioned on “How can someone claim that because there are more poor people than rich, or more power and wealth concentrated at the top, that the entire premise of the American dream is dead” (613)? Someone who has not had to endure the hardships that most immigrants coming to America have to deal with day in and day out would not be able to understand their situation much less be able to inform
